The Pictures

1.http://www.archives.gov/education/lessons/vietnam-photos/images/wounded-comrade.gif

After 1969 year, a big war happened between America and Vietnam. In the war there were many soldiers wounded. In this picture, four American soldiers used the stretcher to carry a wounded soldier. They walked hard in the swampy area. And they all looked like very worried and sorrow. This is about the Vietnam War.

This picture made me cry, I can feel the friendship between the soldiers. They looked after each other. Even though in the most dangerous war, they also tried best to protect their friends

2.http://www.archives.gov/education/lessons/vietnam-photos/images/nurse-and-patient.gif

This is a picture that a nurse looked after a wounded soldier. The soldier was hurt seriously. He was crude in the hospital. This also is about the Vietnam War.

How nice the nurses were. Everyday they must look after thousands of the patients. But they never complained and tried their best to save the lives of the soldiers. They were very grate.

3.http://www.archives.gov/education/lessons/vietnam-photos/images/loretta-clause.gif

In the picture we can obviously see a beautiful American woman. She was a volunteer worker in the Red Cross. She worked very hard everyday at a good emotion. She hoped the war could be finished immediately. She didn’t want to see the miserable war again.

This was a grate woman I think. She used her action to help the soldiers and saver more lives in the world.

4. http://www.archives.gov/education/lessons/vietnam-photos/images/bunker-sign.gif

This picture recorded what the soldier did after the battle. Here were three soldiers they sat on the ground. The left one ate food. The middle one wrote something. The right one used the wood to touch the ground. He seemed to think about something.

This picture was full of the sorrow emotion. We can see they missed their family, especially the man who wrote something. Maybe he was writing to his family to tell his life. The right man seemed that he thought about something. Maybe his emotion was very bad and upset. The war made them became homeless.

  Vocabulary Story

There was a boy named Mike who was born in a very poor family. He had brothers and sisters; also he was the biggest child in his family. His parents had insufficient money to afford their tuition. In order to live, he went to earn money by allocating cans. But he was eager to have a good education. So in his extra time, he went to the nearest school to have a class by stealth. One day, a woman teacher found him. She was very sorry about Tom’s life. She decided to teach him. Also this teacher is a literate woman. It seemed Mike’s destiny changed. Subsequently Tom often went the teacher’s home to study. The teacher specified the knowledge she knew to Mike all the time. This was a significant change in Mike’s life. When growing up, he became very splendid in his county. His teacher advised him to go to see the world. So he moved to another university to have best education in the most famous university. Initially, he explored diverse things that he had never seen. At last, he found he was very good at diplomacy. Unite 4

In 1945, the United States possessed the monopoly on the new atomic bomb. The new weapon was very powerful which brought the ending of the War II. In 1949, along with the Soviet Union exploding the first atomic bomb, a big cold war appeared between the two superpowers. They had a very vehement arms race. During the race a large of nuclear weapons were invented. These became a big threat to our society if we couldn’t use them in good way, even destroyed our earth.

In my opinion the atomic bomb’s appearing was symbol of the new times’ coming. It promoted people into the new times. Although it was a big threat to our society, if we could use it in a good way, it will bring a lot of advantages to the global development.

Sioux Treaty of 1868

Native Americans in North America had a thousand histories. They expanded the land by overcoming a lot of difficulties. At end they settled there. In the 19th century, Americans began to expand the land. In order to get the land, the Americans had the flights with the Native Americans. The Unite States took a series of measures to force the Indian to give up the land. By signing the treaty, they compromised each other. But they still had a lot of the unfair issues between the U.S. government and the Sioux.

If I was a soldier, I think they can solve the problems of the land by some peaceful methods. They divided the land by the arms. It was a little cruelty. Because the purpose of getting land made people more happier, then many people died during the flights, they cannot live the better life forever.

The Homestead Act of 1862

After the Revolutionary War, the distribution of Government lands had some arguments of land measurement and price. The ways to resolve them were a little arbitrary at the early time. In the Land Ordinance of 1785 the government used the practical ways to sell the land to people. Then the government could get the revenue and encourage people to develop the land by themselves. Along with the time, the government implemented the different ways to help people get the land. In the mid of 1800s, the most people began to develop the economy by growing crops on the land. In order to earn much money, they tried their best to expand the land. Particularly the plantations of the South, they used to slaves to work on the land. In 1862, the Homestead Act was passed and signed into law, and then people in America could get and use the land easily as long as they filed the claim. During the process of developing the land, there were a lot of challenges around the people such as Wind, blizzards, and plagues of insects threatened crops. If they wanted to get the land, they must overcome the difficulties. On January 1, 1863, Daniel Freeman and 417 others filed claims to get the land.

the letter

Dear my wife,

How is everything going with my family? I all the time have been missing you since I came here. Are you all OK?

I have come here for several months. I almost can adapt to everything here. I have already joined a big battle. We won the final victory with the best commander. In the war, I knew a good friend. He was a slave. He came from the big South farm. He often helps me a lot. We talk each other when we are alone. I feel so happy. Our General is a very good and outstanding man. He led us to win almost all the wars. Normally, he also looks after the soldiers very well. And now we have more advantages than the South. I believe the war will be finished soon. I also will see you soon.

So my dear wife, you don’t need to worry about me. You should look after yourself, my parents and my little children well. I am very sorry to leave so much work to you. However, I think the war will be finished soon. When I come back, I will make you up as possible as I can. God bless you, my dear family.

                                                                                                                                                                                                        Your husband

The Civil War

1.What is the Civil War?

Answer:

After the election of Abraham Lincoln to the presidency in 1860, the states of the southern United States broke away from the federal union because they believed that Lincoln would restrict their rights to own slaves, Southerners refused the peace talk. President Lincoln and the North opposed the South’s withdrawal. At end in order not to be a new nation to the world, the president steadfastly maintained throughout the war to solve the problem.Despite Lincoln’s hopes that the secession would end without conflict, the two regions fought a war that exploited the advantages and opportunities that each held over the other before their differences could be resolved.

North: advantage: (1) Nothern population was several times that of the South, a potential source for military enlistees and civilian manpower.

(2) The North had a better transportation network, mainly highways, canals, and railroads, which could be easily used to resupply military forces in the field.

(3) At sea, the Union navy was more capable and dominant, while the army was better trained and better supplied.

(4) The rest of the world also recognized the United States as a legitimate government, allowing U.S. diplomats to obtain loans and other trade concessions.

disadvantage:(1) The North suffered because a series of senior generals did not successfully exploit the weaknesses of the South, nor did they act upon the suggestions of their commander-in-chief

South: advantage(1) The South was able to fight on its home terrain, and it could win the war simply by continuing to exist after the hostilities ended later.

(2) The South  had a military tradition that encouraged young men to serve in the armed forces or attend a military school.

(3) The South had the leadership of great commanders, including Robert E. Lee, Joseph Johnston, and “Stonewall” Jackson.

disadvantage:  (1) The South lacked the substantial number of factories and industries of the North that produced needed war materials.

(2) The South had to worry about its slave population, which posed the threat of rebellion and assistance to the Northern cause.
